A Journey Through Lens: Family Photography in St. Albert, Alberta

January 30th, 2024

There is a unique beauty in capturing fleeting moments, in immortalising the ephemeral. This takes on an even greater significance when it comes to family photography. Through my lens, I have had the privilege of witnessing the unscripted, raw beauty of familial bonds, and I recently had the opportunity to do so in the breathtaking setting of St. Albert, Alberta.

St. Albert, a charming city just outside Edmonton, is a haven for photographers. With its picturesque landscapes and serene ambiance, it provides the perfect backdrop for those candid moments that are so precious to family photography. Nestled within this city, I found a gem of a location for a recent photoshoot - the Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park.

The park, named after the late Lois Hole, a passionate advocate for education and the environment, is a testament to her work and dedication. Its sprawling landscapes, lush greenery, and an awe-inspiring sunset create a setting that is nothing short of magical. The golden hues of the setting sun paint the sky with shades of orange and pink, casting a warm, ethereal glow over the entire landscape. This natural light show provides an unbeatable illumination for photographs, enhancing their aesthetic appeal while adding depth and dimension.

This recent photoshoot revolved around a little boy finding his path, one step at a time. Each click of the shutter captured his journey, his exploration, his curiosity. The photographs bear witness to his wonder at the world around him, his fearless foray into the unknown. The child's family, his support system, form the background, always there but never imposing, allowing him the freedom to explore while providing a safety net.

Looking at these photographs, I am reminded of why I fell in love with family photography. It's not just about creating beautiful pictures; it's about capturing beautiful moments, about chronicling the journey of a family, one step at a time. Each photograph tells a story, a narrative of love, support, and growth. And each location, like the enchanting Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park in St. Albert, serves as the perfect setting for these stories to unfold.

As a photographer, I am grateful for such experiences. Not only do they provide an opportunity to sharpen my skills, but they also serve as a gentle reminder of the beauty that can be found in everyday moments, in every step of our journey.
